Hillsdale College Dow Journalism Program

Production objective(s), intended audience and credits:
Our challenge was to produce a video that celebrated the Hillsdale Dow Journalism Program through interviews with former students who have prominent careers with notable media outlets. Filming them in their actual environments showed how the skills they developed in the program fostered their success. We also filmed students on campus actively working in the newsroom and gaining experience to help them thrive in professional media careers. The goals were to increase the number of current students who enter the program and to raise support for the program,

MARSOC Amphibious Training

Production objective(s), intended audience and credits:

MARSOC’s lead agency, SAIC, has engaged iostudio to produce multiple dynamic videos for recruitment purposes. The videos need to build recognition of the brand as an elite group that tackle’s our nation’s most clandestine missions; but most importantly they need to raise awareness within the Marine corps to recruit from within the organization.

One of our recent recruiting videos covered MARSOC’s Amphibious Training in West Florida. We used our drone to hover 50-200 feet above the wather to document the operators during their waterborne operations, including a long swing of several thousand meters. This allowed iostudio to capture the massive waterborne operations and their scores of operators in a single frame.

MARSOC Ground Warfare Training

Production objective(s), intended audience and credits:
Though it’s the youngest special operations force in the Department of Defense, MARSOC draws its lineage from the Marine Raiders–an elite special operations force in World War II feared by Axis forces. As MARSOC planned celebrations for its 10th anniversary, the command sought to tell the Raiders backstory. Recognizing our knack for storytelling, MARSOC’s lead agency, SAIC, hired iostudio.

Our solution was to interview past and current Raiders on camera to capture their sense of service, patriotism and unprecedented grit. We told the Raiders’ story, weaving in connections to the modern-day Raiders currently serving operationally around the globe. We also worked with the National Archives and Records Administration to secure exclusive photographs and film of Raiders training and fighting in the Pacific theater during World War II.

In the intensive post-production phase, our team removed the color from the new footage to create a consistent viewer experience when interspersed with the historic footage and photography. Additionally, we applied animation and other visual effects to bring the past to life.

Production medium and format with detailed information about camera(s) used in each video excerpt:
Interviews were shot with professional DSLRs, the Canon 5D Mark III and 7D. We combined these with archival footage from WWII with access granted by various agency partners, and footage we’d previously shot with professional DSLRs.
